The CREC is closed today and tomorrow, so it was a home workout day. Thurmond's program requires 45-60 min cardio at 65% of one's max heart rate. According to Thurmond's book, that is a hr of 122 for me. An alternative online calculation gave 126. That is actually pretty low, I thought. Yesterday, I did an hour on the tredmill using the heart rate control program at 122. That 122 felt pretty low and I could've walked for at least another hour (or more). But I'm really trying to follow the program to the letter...
Thurmond's book says for my body type (B, inverted triangel) to eat a serving of carbs before working out. Either the workout's preceeding carb serving or 1/2 cup of brown rice. I decided to start the day with a workout, but breakfast contains no carbs. Brown rice it was!
I did all the steps of certain indoors walking tap while watching one of my favorite programs - "The first 48" on A&E. I wore my heart rate monitor to make sure I was working hard enough. The tv show is an hour long and I matched, knee lifted, kicked, punched, and side stepped the whole time.
Pre-workout:
1/2 cup brown rice w/ Splenda + cinnamon
Breakfast:
1 serving homemade meringue cookies
berry smoothie
Midmorning snack:
6oz soy yogurt
1 cup broccoli
Lunch:
3oz grilled chicken
1 cup broccoli
Midafternoon snack:
3oz tuna
1 cup spinach
Dinner:
2oz grilled chicken
1 cup green beans
1/2 cup brown rice + homemade salsa
1/2 grapefruit + splenda
During the last 3 days, I have stuck to the 12 glasses of water a day. That is a lot of water! I'm always in the bathroom. I've been getting up twice in the night to go! But, I'm drinking it down. Herbal tea can be counted as part of those 12 glasses, so I've been drinking mint tea after meals.
I don't know if I'm in denial, but I like the program so far. Probably because I'm eating every 3 hours!
